Bunny the Vampire Slayer

I started digging my early patch of garlic a couple weekends ago with the intent of getting that patch clear so I could amend the soil and get it ready for some fall plantings. It didn't happen quite like that.

I got about 1/3 of the way in and I found a patch of loose dirt, like an animal had dug it up. 'Great,' I thought. 'A cat probably used it as a litterbox.'

I moved the dirt (gloved hands, thank you very much). Dug another head of garlic. Next to the pile of dirt was a pile of hay. I started to move the hay and there was a bunch of fur.

'Great!' I thought. 'A cat probably killed a mouse.' I started to dig around for bones and the pile moved.

It is a bunny nest. They have fur and their eyes are open, they probably won't be there for much longer. I'm going to keep checking every couple days, and then try to make sure the mom doesn't lay any more eggs there, as it were.

No pictures because I don't want to disturb them. I left the remaining garlic and sort of canopied it around them to shade them a bit more (see planting map above, the boxed in area).

*Update, the bunnies have moved on.

Bunnies don't lay eggs, you silly! :)
Well, I guess it's good that they moved on, so you could get back to harvesting.
