Shortage of Canning Jars????

This recently came across the Yahoo! canning group I belong to:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hi,I just attended a class called "What's new with food preservation" at my local extension office. Our instructor informed us that there will be a shortage this year of lids, rings and jars. Ball and Kerr confirmed that they don't have anymore or didn't make enough. So, what's in the stores is already in the store and can't be ordered from Ball or Kerr. When it's gone it's gone. I suggest if you need lids, rings and jars, plan on getting them soon. Don't wait until August. Seeing with the state of our economy many more individuals are starting to can.
Isn't that interesting? Anyone else hear this?
I haven't heard it "officially" but I've been hearing rumblings about this shortage each year for at least the last 3 years.
It's a good idea to never, ever pass up used jars at yard sales or thrift stores for this reason. It's also a great case for buying lids in bulk. I buy entire cases of wide mouth and regular lids which will get me through 2 to 3 seasons of canning. I re-use lids for my dehydrated goods too...
I'd like to see an "official" canning product shortage announcement - if you see one, let me know please.
I will let you know if I see one.
I also reuse lids for dehydrated stuff. Some of the jars that were at the thrift shop were grocery store jars, so I didn't get those, but I picked up all the others that were 'brand name.'
I sent them an e-mail.. They said
"We appreciate your interest in our products. Contrary to what you’ve read, Jarden Home Brands has an ample inventory of home canning products for the 2009 season.
Thank you for contacting us.
Sincerely,
Jarden Home Brands"
Sehr gut! I'm glad to hear it, of course we never know what kind of run they're expecting vs. what they will get.
I have had no problems finding jars and lids of any size.
