Virginia Trip, part 2

On the way home on Sunday, we stopped by Edible Landscaping in Afton, VA. It is a nursery that specializes in edible plants. No, not vegetables. Fruit and nut trees and bushes, mainly.

It is fairly extensive, with several hoophouse-style greenhouses and a lot of landscaping that gives you an idea of how large things will grow. We had an idea of what we wanted already, but no idea where it was so we grabbed an employee and gave her a list. She took us where we needed to go.

We got (l-r, below) a wintergreen, a Hardy Chicago fig (which now has three baby figs), and a Korean Red Pine, which in a decade or so will produce pine nuts:

A Flying Dragon Trifoliate Orange, which is hardy to zone 6 and does, indeed, produce oranges. Oh, and it has 2" long thorns when mature. Right now they're only (ONLY) an inch long:

We also got two hazelnuts (short) and two pawpaw trees (tall):
And four cranberries:

I just loved the siding on this building, doesn't it look interesting? They didn't edge the boards. There were several buildings like this.
