Lots going on right now but here's a teaser:
We went over to D's house (of 'Bramble' fame) and she had a jar of fermented pickles on the counter. We talked about it, she gave me the recipe and instructions....so now I also have fermented pickles on the counter!
Also, take a look at this mother:
Yup, garlic harvest has begun....at least 3 weeks early! So far, I've dug two varieties that are fairly early varieties anyway (chinese pink and shantung purple), and are very pleased with the size, etc.

Wow. Methinks you know how to grow garlic! Impressive.
The pic was blurry, but it is HUGE! One of the larger that I've dug so far, and I think there is larger still under that dirt in other varieties...
I think a "Boo-yah" is appropriate at this point, and I am not one generally to do so. [applause]
Nice!

That is GORGEOUS garlic! You've obviously kept your soil very fertile!
How do you get such big garlic so early? I plant hardneck garlic (usually Rosewood and Xian) in the fall, but mine isn't ready for harvest until at least July of the following year.
Angie, mine aren't usually ready until July, either! This is a really early variety, Chinese Pink. It is a softneck variety, which is generally earlier than the hardnecks, too. I'll give you some this fall to plant.
EVERYTHING seems to be about 3 weeks early this year...
